So I am reading through articles today on AOL run Propeller (much better than Digg…) about how our Supreme court is allowing the creation of a Corporate democracy. In other words, corporations-and most of all the richest 1%-determine everyone’s destiny. That’s not how democracy is supposed to work. Corporate democracy is the first stages of an oligarchy, is it not? So what brought this to my attention? An article in The Hill reports that a nationwide poll from Quinnipiac found that 79 percent of respondents disapprove of the recent Supreme Court ruling on the Citizens United v. the Federal Election Commission case. “The Court essentially ruled that corporations and unions are entitled to free speech and, therefore, could contribute funds directly to a political candidate. Opposition to this decision was strong across the political spectrum, according to the poll.” “The poll also found that 78 percent of voters think the Court allows political views to enter into their decisions.” So after reading a bit of background provided on People For the American Way, I learned that this is not new, but progressively getting worse and needs to be stopped. I am not one to get on a soapbox, but I [...]

Yes, that’s right, I said it. Tyranny has reared its ugly head today in our Supreme Court. “Reporting from Washington – The Supreme Court today overturned a century-old restriction on corporations using their money to sway federal elections and ruled that companies have a free-speech right to spend as much as they wish to persuade voters to elect or defeat candidates for Congress and the White House.” stated in the LA Times today, January 21. Mark this infamous day in history. The Supreme Court has struck down a law that has been in place/enforced since 1907. A law to help keep the balance between Corporations and the common people. So this is the kind of thing that EVERYONE needs to know about. Because it can lead to baaaad things. It happened first this morning. I had not read it anywhere till 5PM this afternoon. Maybe that is my bad. But I want to make sure that EVERYBODY IS AWARE. The fact that it happened ALMOST EXACTLY a year into Obama’s presidency? Hmmmm….
